TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS. WHAT ARE YOU DOING EXACTLY?
I am the owner of self care culture club where I help overwhelmed, overstretched career-minded women gain clarity and confidence to take their professional and personal life to the next level. Through promoting self-care practices in their life I help them feel empowered to make decisions that put them first. Self care culture club now includes Full circle styling @ self care culture club which is a personal styling service with the aim of increasing body confidence.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BUSINESS IDEA?
In my formative years, I experienced racism and colourism which dented my confidence. Diversity was not celebrated like it is now. I had to go to specialist beauty supply stores for makeup. Social media would portray women of colour as an opinionated, ghetto, loud and strong woman. This filtered into how people treated me. I felt I could not be any different from the characters they saw on TV. People within my own community always highlighted the fact I was ugly for being dark skinned and suggested I lighten my skin.
My experiences reinforced my limiting belief that I was different and not worthy. With that limiting belief; I entered into toxic relationships, that did not serve me, but I wanted to feel beautiful. Then I found motivational speakers that helped me understand I could create my own reality. People that typecast me were projecting their fears on me and I came to realize the issue was not about me. It has taken me many years to love myself, set healthy boundaries and start living in a place of abundance rather than lack. I wanted to share my experiences and my story to empower women, so they can also live in their truth.
