TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS. WHAT ARE YOU DOING EXACTLY?
My name is Sonika and I’m a certified leadership coach. I have founded Flourish* by Sonika. Where I coach women so that their sphere of influence can expand by the fundamentals of intentional living. I coach and teach women through a process of self-development and growth. I help to transform their lives from chaos to a place of balance, ease and harmony.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BUSINESS IDEA?
Being a business owner has been a dream of mine for ten years. Flourish* by Sonika has been officially founded 18 months ago. And it has challenged me to grow personally. During this journey, I came to the awareness that personal growth and personal development are important assets for business development.
WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE THIS, AND IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS?
I am a reverend, with a Master’s degree in Theology. So before becoming a full-time entrepreneur, I was working in a ministry. And I still teach part-time.
WHAT SPECIFIC ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG WOMEN WHO WOULD LIKE TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?
Find yourself a mentor that believes in you and whose opinion you can trust. Share with this person your ideas and read the books that they might recommend. Find yourself a tribe who always supports and cheers you on. Choose an influencer on whose radar you want to be. Follow them, comment on their social media and ask them specific questions about the industry. Never be the smartest person in the room, because then you won’t be learning anything new.
MY GREATEST OBSTACLE AND HOW DID YOU DEALT WITH IT:
My greatest obstacle is finding my tribe. I am dealing with it, by showing up daily and by consistently being on social media. I am finding my tribe slowly but surely.
MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT:
Launching my signature offer, Mōi. It’s a six-week online course which takes women from a place of imbalance and chaos, into a place of balance and harmony. During this course they will understand the benefits of enjoying vibrant health, being conscious and mindfully present. They will understand the value of having a holistic approach to life, health and well-being. They will celebrate their feminine intelligence, instead of misunderstanding their power. This course will allow women to change their perspective and enjoy the abundance and richness of life.
“I prepare for success in the silent moments of feeling and knowing all will be well.”
HOW I BLEND LIFE AND WORK TO CREATE THE LIFE I WANT:
Haha, at this moment in time, my life and work are just fun and messy. While doing this interview, my children decided that my two couches will be a perfect jungle gym and one of the school bags has been set in place to be a great slide. So they created their own way of having fun. I enjoy the ability that I can take my children with me. They come to me when I have meetings. They join me on Zoom calls and on Facebook live. They are part of my business and my business is part of them. Technology has provided me with the opportunity to be a business mom.
I AM INSPIRED BY:
The unlimited and unbounded energy and life of my children. They already are what I teach. Everything I do, I do for them. My children are my greatest inspiration.
WHY I CHOSE THIS CAREER:
The challenges that women face these days are very near to my heart. Women need to be there for everything and for everyone all at the same time, and their cups are most of the time empty. Women need a place where they can fill their cup with love and support. Women need a safe space where they can be honest about their fears and hardships they face. We, women, need someone to say; “Tonight you don’t have to think about dinner, I will cook and here is a glass of wine.” I choose this career because my heart is breaking for these women whose cups are most of the time empty and I want to help them change their world.
HOW I PREPARE FOR SUCCESS:
My self-care routine is important for my well-being. I pray daily for my clients. I envision where I am heading to and I meditate on the solutions for those who cross my path. I believe that success is about to know your dream and then take deliberate action towards making that dream a reality. I prepare for success in the silent moments of feeling and knowing all will be well.
DID YOU WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN? WAS IT AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR YOU?
No, I don’t have a business plan. I do, however, have a weekly strategy.
ARE THERE SPECIFIC ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES TO BEING A WOMEN BUSINESS OWNER?
Up till now, I haven’t experienced any advantages nor disadvantages.
MY FAVOURITE BUSINESS TOOL IS…
That would be Facebook for me.
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN IS…
There is no such thing as a failure, only lessons. Keep on failing forward. Reflect on the lessons and improve the task next time.
