Finding your tribe – Why it matters

With my blog, I encounter various women that I interview. From female entrepreneurs to female solo travellers back to male designers and female and male creative individuals. It’s amazing and I never expected to meet the kind of souls I only saw in my dreams. We help each other. With a couple of these people who at the beginning where business acquaintances, I became friends or I should say they became part of my tribe and I became part of theirs. I started to think about tribes. I mean we all know the saying “YOUR VIBE ATTRACTS YOUR TRIBE”. But I never took a moment to really think about what it means. On the internet, you can find various articles and blog post about tribes and how to find your tribe.

Today I want to share why I believe it’s important to have a tribe, what we do and how we “use” each other’s vibes. To me, a tribe is far more than a friendship. Actually, I usually go to my tribe for support, encouragement, advice and empowerment business-wise. My tribe consist of man and women who have seen and done it all. And when I struggle with issues in my professional life (sometimes personal life), I know that they will give me thoughtful and compassionate advice and I know they will be discreet which is very important to me! The difference for me between a friendship and a tribe is that I go to them for improvement and criticism. Knowing that their advice will be empowering.

Let’s start with defining the meaning of tribe:

“A social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader.”

Why is it important to have a tribe

First things first. I do not believe that a tribe needs to consist mainly or only of women. Men are just a capable and just as amazing to have in your tribe. But this is my opinion. If you vibe better with a woman then, by all means, go for it :). Not everyone experiences tribe the same but everyone can benefit from having a tribe who empowers and encourage. Your tribe does not necessarily main your best friends – your tribe should represent someone who understands your professional path. Who respects your path, your choices, empowers you to look further and can give you new perspectives.

How tribes contribute to the success

I encourage you to build a tribe that is diverse. People with various levels of experience to gain the best perspective. As a Digital Marketing Strategist, I know how important it is to know your target group. You can’t start an online marketing campaign without knowing who your target group is and to know how they move online (one of the few basics to start an online campaign or website).

Or what pages they look at and I always fill in the Why’s, the When’s and How’s when I work at my company. But the same goes for my blog, if I want to be successful I will have to dive into my target group. So in my tribe, I have two females that are a great representative of my blog Paperbeau readers. And they help me with key insights that I would have otherwise never gotten.

My tribe helps me to break down my assumptions, my weak spots and my areas of opportunity. My tribe accepts me as I am – no judgement – respects me and there is a lot of trusts (which is super important to me)! My tribe also pushes me to be better, bigger, and more successful. They really want me to succeed in everything I do.

How to let your tribe nurture you

I truly believe that we all need each other. We can all learn from each other. Whether it is the way someone treats you, to become smarter in business. I also believe that having a tribe is that you do not always have to be strong or smart. A tribe allows you to have people in your life that love and want to nurture you. I have also learned to ask for help and lean on others when needed. Which is hard for me because I rather do things on my own. I don’t want to bother people. But I have learned that it’s okay to ask for help and that your tribe is there for you to help out and give a helping hand. I think it’s the beauty and importance of having a tribe. It allows you to no having to do everything on your own and to never having to be alone.

We all need each other, often more than we are willing to admit, and we are all deserving of love:).
