Meet Lisa the founder and managing director of 2.0 Consultancy. As a dedicated young professional with business management experience in a wide range of positions, Lisa has a lot of experience thus advice on how to aim for leadership positions and what the traits are of a great leader. She also shares her thoughts on what a great leader is. I asked Lisa to share a fun fact about herself and here is what she had to say: “I am not a drinker but would kill for a glass of Sangria.”
DEFINE A GREAT LEADER – WHAT ARE SOME TRAITS YOU THINK GREAT LEADERS POSSESS?
A great leader is one who inspires others to push themselves to achieve things they never thought they could. I believe that an authentic leader has a strong intuition that enables him/her to trust and push certain individuals out of their comfort zones. A great leader is selfless and genuinely interested in seeing others succeed.
WHAT ARE SOME STRATEGIES THAT CAN HELP WOMEN ACHIEVE A MORE PROMINENT ROLE IN THEIR ORGANIZATIONS?
To use their intuition as much as possible. Research has shown that women’s intuition is a real thing. So why not use it in the workplace? Being receptive to your inner voice helps you make better decisions. As women, we need to make use of our female traits instead of perceiving them as being weak. I know enough women who have climbed the corporate ladder. An important strategy is to use these women as role models. By continuing to focus on those success stories instead of thinking that I am in some way restricted, I exude the confidence that I need to make things happen around me.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN AIMING FOR LEADERSHIP POSITIONS?
Do not let the conventional wisdom hold you back. Work hard, show up, do not take no for an answer. Use your intuition and stand up for what you believe in. The respect you are looking for is most of the time already there: you are your worst critic.
WHAT’S ONE-KEY LEADERSHIP LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED ALONG THE WAY?
I learned this from a mentor of mine and promised myself that I will do the same for other people, especially young women: when you believe in someone, help them believe in themselves. Most of the time it is by pushing this person out of their comfort zone. You will be surprised at how beautifully they bloom.
