TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS. WHAT ARE YOU DOING EXACTLY?

I work as a dental hygienist and I have my own practice in Amersfoort. In my practice, I help people with tips on how to keep their mouth en teeth healthy. Also, I do teeth cleaning en bleaching so you can have and keep a radiant smile.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BUSINESS IDEA?

I started 15 years ago working as a dental hygienist in different dental practices. After a few years, I didn’t get the satisfaction I craved for from my work. I also didn’t receive any gratifications from my employers only from my patients. So I decided that I wanted more, I want to create an environment where everybody feels wanted and welcome. Not so the practice can earn money but I want you to feel like you are important to the practice.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE THIS, AND IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS?

I was a dental hygienist working in a practice before starting my own practice.

“Never leave anything for tomorrow, tomorrow isn’t granted”

WHAT SPECIFIC ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG WOMEN WHO WOULD LIKE TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?

There are always enough reasons not to start your own business. Most of the time we focus on the reason why we shouldn’t do things. Instead, try to focus on why it. Most of the time you regret what you didn’t do instead of what you did do.

MY GREATEST OBSTACLE AND HOW DID YOU DEALT WITH IT:

My greatest obstacle was myself. I always had an excuse for why I shouldn’t start my practice. After a while, I decided that it was enough. I said to myself: “If I don’t do it now, I will never do it.”

MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT:

Finishing and opening my practice, I had to overcome so many obstacles that when the time was there and my practice was a fact I was so proud of myself that I didn’t give up.

HOW I BLEND LIFE AND WORK TO CREATE THE LIFE I WANT:

Because I have my own practice I don’t have to be open all the time. I can choose my own opening hours. With most of my clients, I try to make appointments in the morning. My children are then off to school and my administration I can do from home.

I AM INSPIRED BY:

I am inspired by a man, Marcus Limones. He is an entrepreneur who helps other businesses, that don’t get financial help from their bank. His first rule is to make the employees feel safe and secure.

WHY I CHOSE THIS CAREER:

You can make a difference in peoples lives. To make a difference in the world. And I plan my own hours. I want to make a difference for other female entrepreneurs. I want to help them later on financially or with guidance, so they can start their own business and make it a successful one. Most of the time we don’t miss the cravings to have our own business or the courage or the know-how, we miss the financial aspect and as a woman, especially a single mom, it is difficult to find the funds to start your business.

HOW I PREPARE FOR SUCCESS:

I always dress for success. Dress for the position you want in a business. Talk to people for example if you have a business in the beauty or medical segment go out and talk to your neighbours, they can give you helpful tips for your business.

DID YOU WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN? WAS IT AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR YOU?

A business plan is helpful because it lets you think about what you want to accomplish with your business and what you will need to reach that. I do, however, don’t think it will help you predict the success of your business. If you want this then you have to contact the Chamber of Commerce. They will have the numbers for you.

ARE THERE SPECIFIC ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES TO BEING A WOMEN BUSINESS OWNER?

To be a female business owner makes it a little more challenging. People tend to not take you seriously and think that you will give up at the first hurdle. But being a woman you have the natural tenacity to keep ongoing en prove them wrong.

MY FAVOURITE BUSINESS TOOL IS…

Patience. Have patience even when you think that you are at a dead-end because things always happen with a reason.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN IS…

Coincidence doesn’t exist, things always happen for a reason. Never leave anything for tomorrow, tomorrow isn’t granted.
