TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS. WHAT ARE YOU DOING EXACTLY?

I am  Felicia Baxley, and I am the Founder of Hustle Write Publication LLC. Hustle Write publication is an Independent Publishing company, designed with the author in mind. We strive to assist, teach, and encourage authors to get their stories written and published in a way that allows them to generate multiple streams of income. Our mission is to provide independent publishing services to emerging authors while teaching, encouraging, and inspiring authors to write and publish with the goal of generating multiple streams of income in mind. We are constantly looking for new innovative and creative ways to encourage and inspire authors to become entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurs to become authors.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BUSINESS IDEA?

As an author who began to desire more, I saw that I was not the only person struggling to deal with the stress of trying to build my brand around my authorship. I decided to take the concept of my podcast “Boss in the Making”, which is dedicated to sharing my entrepreneurship journey with others into my business model. There are a number of women who have a story to tell without the means to get it on paper. And there are a number of women who are confused about how to get their ideas into a clear business model. Because of this, I am dedicated to making the process easier by assisting clients every step of the way, and teaching them how to get things done.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE THIS, AND IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS?

I still currently work a full-time job with a local utility company. I run my business as well as continue to write and self-publish my books. This is the first business I have opened for myself.

WHAT SPECIFIC ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG WOMEN WHO WOULD LIKE TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?

There is so much advice to give to women looking to become entrepreneurs.  My podcast is dedicated to providing weekly advice based on my own personal experiences. The best advice I can give women wanting to become entrepreneurs is to get started and keep going. There are going to be a number of reasons to dwell on as to why you can’t or shouldn’t do something, but you have to push past it and keep going. Don’t let anything hold you back.

MY GREATEST OBSTACLE AND HOW DID YOU DEALT WITH IT:

My greatest obstacle was trying to figure out how to create a lucrative business composed of all of my talents. I dealt with it by continuously learning and being coached by my mentor. I was able to push past not knowing how to do it by learning the best ways to do it. Because of this, I have dedicated myself to ensuring my clients understand the best way to incorporate any idea they may have into their business.

MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT:

My proudest moment to date is opening Hustle Write Publication LLC. After a few short months of trying to figure entrepreneurship out for myself, I was finally able to create a business model that was based on my skillset and talents that can be client and author oriented.

HOW I BLEND LIFE AND WORK TO CREATE THE LIFE I WANT:

Since I still work a full-time day job, sometimes it can be difficult to balance my day job, my business, as well as my personal life. I have come to learn that it is important to manage my time wisely and give myself the freedom to rest and have fun. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and I have to remember that I don’t have to work all night until my business is built, I just need to work until the task I give myself is finished.

I AM INSPIRED BY:

I am inspired first and foremost by my relationship with God. His guidance and support, I have built a successful business, while not having to give up my writing. After that, the relief my clients get when they reach their goals, knowing that I helped them achieve it, inspires me. Whether it was getting their story on paper or following them through their first six months of entrepreneurship.

WHY I CHOSE THIS CAREER:

I chose this career to help other women embrace their dreams and most creative selves. As women, we can feel overwhelmed by daily life and feel we need to put our own dreams on the back burner to deal with life. I am here to help women understand they can have it all, with a little work.

HOW I PREPARE FOR SUCCESS:

I prepare for success by constantly learning. I watch other women, and men, who I see as successful, and I learn from them. I am continuously trying to better my understanding of how to build the success I want.

DID YOU WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN? WAS IT AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR YOU?

As a creative, I didn’t write a traditional business plan, however, I did write out a business vision. The difference was that I wrote out all the things I saw my business doing in the next five years as evidence. Now I have goals to work towards, and I create the goals and plans along the way. This is now what I do with my clients.

ARE THERE SPECIFIC ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES TO BEING A WOMAN BUSINESS OWNER?

As a business owner, there are a number of advantages and disadvantages. It’s all a matter of dealing with the negatives to accomplish what you desire. The advantages for me are that I get to share my creativity through writing in my books, and assist others to do the same. I also am in charge of how much money I generate. With that being said, there are a number of legal aspects and money aspects that must be considered when opening a business. That information and those areas can sometimes seem like disadvantages for those of us who do everything for ourselves.

MY FAVOURITE BUSINESS TOOL IS…

My favourite business tool is social media. Through social media, I have networked with numerous other entrepreneurs, gained clients, and have been able to advertise different services and webinars I host. Social media allows me to stay in contact with clients and potential clients, and be able to hear the input. It also provides the opportunity to see the needs of my audience as they grow and change

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN IS…

The best advice I have ever been given is to ditch the excuses and start.
