TELL ME ABOUT YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS. WHAT ARE YOU DOING EXACTLY?

Providing people with a great travel experience is what I like doing most. I sell and do various private, fun and comfortable family-friendly cultural tours in and around Amsterdam, The Netherlands. To make travel with kids as comfortable as possible my organisation is called Wanderlust Mama & Co. We also provide holiday kids care service, kid-friendly transfer service and rent out baby equipment.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BUSINESS IDEA?

“I am full of creative ideas. I already shared this company with the universe 4 years ago. My creative side during my job in the corporate business was blocked and I could no longer cope with this. I became very demotivated and finally made the decision. With the realization that life still has more beautiful things to offer and that I can safely offer the opportunities offered, as long as there is a prospect of gain. The idea of entering the sector concerned has to do with the fact that I myself love to travel and also like to undertake cultural tours and activities at my holiday destinations, including hiking, eating or cycling tours. These tours are usually in large numbers with fellow tourists and not focused on the family-friendly aspect. I would like to see and experience this differently. But also around me, I was told by many travel-loving and enterprising mothers that they would like to do cultural tours but focused on families with children. As a result of this trigger, my creative brain came into effect and I came to the decision to give enterprising families and their children a good time during their vacation in the Netherlands. Times are changing, the target audience is more open-minded and tourism is increasing, or there is an increasing trend. A gap in the market, I thought, there is a demand for a service and I can do that.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE THIS, AND IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS?

I was a PA and worked at different international corporate organisations for the last four years. This is my first business in the tourism branch.

WHAT SPECIFIC ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG WOMEN WHO WOULD LIKE TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy. If you’re happy in what you’re doing, you’ll like yourself, you’ll have inner peace. And if you have that, along with physical health, you will have had more success than you could possibly have imagined. Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong. If you can do it for the joy, you can do it forever.
